Canady Performs at New Haven University and Tiffin University

Marjuan Canady brought her one woman play “Girls! Girls? Girls.” to The University of New Haven and Tiffin University. Canady was greeted with a packed house of students at both schools! She performed her play and led an interactive talk back with both audiences. The University of New Haven’s performance was sponsored by The Latin American Student Association, The Black Student Union and Omega Phi Beta. Tiffin University’s performance was sponsored by the on campus women’s union V.O.I.C.E., SAASE and The Student Government.

Canady Co-Stars in the Short Film “Divine Rite”

Canady co-stars in the short film, Divine Rite , Directed by Shadae Smith. Canady joins a cast of young talented actors including Andre Darnell Myers, Jerry Ford and Brandon Gregory to deliver a provocative yet strikingly realistic drama about incidents that happen too often in Black Greek Life. Divine Rite tells the story of a young boy, Kwame(Andre Myers), who tries to navigate the pressure of college life, his identity and relationship with his crush and friend, Nalia(Marjuan Canady) as a member of the Black Greek Fraternity Kappa Alpha Omega. Divine Rite plans to hit the festival circuit by Summer 2012.

Marjuan Canady traveled to Schenectady, New York to perform her hit one woman play, “Girls! Girls? Girls.” at Union College. This event was sponsored by Union College’s Women’s Union Organization. The theater was packed with students, professors and neighborhood guests. It was once again another funny yet thought provoking night full of energetic performance and intellectual discourse.

“Love, Lucy: A Tribute to Lucille Ball” Premiere

On December 27, 2011 Marjuan Canady shared the stage with DC performers, Candace Coles, Rayshun Lamarr and Maimouna Youseff at the famous jazz lounge, Bohemian Caverns. The night featured performances from Marjuan Canady’s one woman play “Girls! Girls? Girls.”, Candace Coles EP “Fingerprints”, Maimouna Youssef’s “The Blooming” and covered classics such as The Jackson 5′s “I’ll be There” and contemporaries like Trey Songz “Can’t Be Friends”.

Marjuan Canady premiered an excerpt from her new piece, “Love, Lucy: A Tribute to Lucille Ball”. The Cavernous space was full of laughs and smiles as Canady recreated the famous “Vitameatavegamin” scene from America’s first sitcom “I Love Lucy”. Canady is currently working on this piece as a film, photography and theater concept.

Marjuan Canady visited an English Language Arts class at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, New York. She performed excerpts of her one woman play, “Girls! Girls? Girls.” for Brooklyn High Schoolers while leading them in a talkback discussing issues in pop culture, media and pertinent issues in their lives. Canady also led a writing workshop with students as they were able to write and share their own satirical monologues with their fellow classmates. This visit was sponsored by The Theatre Development Fund.

Disney Princess Tea at The Ritz Carlton

Marjuan Canady along with five performers took the stage at The Ritz Carlton in Mclean, Virginia for the month of December. Performing as Jasmine from the Disney movie Aladdin, this festive Holiday show served young children from the Virginia Boys and Girls Club and local children in the Washington, DC area.
